Landscape Design – Full Implementation

One of the older Moonhole houses required a full Landscape Design and Implementation. The project was split into two phases, Phase One included a full landscape design for the gardens surrounding the main house, pool and patio areas, with dry stone walls being placed where necessary and all areas fully planted. The scope of the design was to incorporate as much year round colour as possible while using the majority of locally sourced plants to give it an authentic look and feel. Phase Two was to build an extension to the house and gardens, which is planned for the future. Plans for Phase One were drawn up adn agreed with the owner:

The next step was to clear the ground, ready for the garden design to be implemented:

And then the walls were added, steps and planting areas laid out and the design begin to takes shape. Once the layout is established, the planting starts. The images below are a selection of pictures taken shortly after the original planting was completed.

Dry Stone Walling

The use of dry stone walls is common in local gardens here on Bequia. Often, the site is on a hillside, with the gardens sloping away downhill, creating many issues for the gardener and owner alike.

The use of dry stone walls creates ‘layers’ or ‘steps’ down the garden, blending in with the other building works in and around the site, but also fitting in with the natural habitat, the existing rocks and other formations.

Here you can clearly see the creation of areas for planting, provising space and separation to a steeply sloped garden area, which was surrounding the pool. Once fully planted up and established, the plants will provide cover, shape, colour and architecture to this otherwise shapeless area.

Ground Clearance

When a building projects starts here on the islands, the first thing to be done on site it to clear the ground. This may be done in stages, the first stage to clear the ground for the area to be built on, with a second stage to clear the gardens and views.

Landscape Design : Re-design and plant up

A full garden re-design project to transform the area from a wasteland into a beautiful garden that the owners would enjoy using on a daily basis.

The gardens had not been looked after over the previous months so it was agreed to clear the entire area and start from scratch.

Regular Garden Maintenance

Once your garden has been designed by http://www.artificialgrasscompany.com.au, plans drawn up, walls and any structures built and finally all of the wonderful local plants are put in the ground …. then you have to wait for nature to do its thing.

Keeping it neat and tidy whilst nature takes its’ course is a game of patience and regular upkeep.
